How to pick the photos
A christmas dump is about people, not presents. Piles of wrapping paper and close-ups of gifts read as a receipt; a photo of your nan laughing at something off camera reads as christmas. Cut the present photos down to one, and make it the one with a face in it.
- Open on the room, not the tree. Everyone posts a tree. The wide shot of the kitchen at full volume is the photo people stop on.
- Keep two food photos, maximum. The full table before it is carved, and the plate. Nobody needs the trifle from three angles.
- Order it by the day. Morning pyjamas, kitchen, table, sofa, dark walk. The dump tells the day and the caption only has to wink at it.
- Let the low light stay low. Brightening a fairy-light photo kills what made it look like christmas. Warm and slightly dark is correct.
